'COUSIN VINNY' BARRUCCO |
Vinny was born and raised surrounded by very talented older siblings. His sister Tina holds a Masters Degree in Performance and played the parts of many lead roles in Lakeshore Light Opera productions. Vinny blames her for knowing all the lyrics to many musical soundtracks (I am sixteen, going on seventeen...). His older brother Joe is a Juno nominated music producer who at 19, ran a professional studio producing + writing for MC Mario, one of Canada's Top DJ's. Joe now works on Hollywood films and still produces and writes music for artists around the world.

It would only makes sense that constantly being around his brother and sister, Vinny eventually ended up with a microphone in his hands recording himself on cassette at the age of 15. Once he finished his studies at Dawson College in Social Sciences, Vinny decided to pursue radio as a career. However, he was rejected from the Communications program at Concordia University 2 years in a row. Without getting discouraged, Vinny quickly enrolled at the Montreal Radio & Television School in 2005. It turned out to be the best decision he ever made! He met his mentor Robert Vairo who has been monumental in his career so far. It all began for Vinny with an internship on 'Melnick in the afternoon' at Team 990 (Now TSN Radio). Then Vinny got to host his own 3 hour talk show every Saturday at the young age of 22. He then decided to walk in to K103.7FM in Kahnawake and ask for a job. Luckily for him they needed someone on the drive show, so they gave him a shot for a week...which turned into 3 years. During his time at K103, Vinny ended up being the youngest program director in the history of the radio station when he was promoted at 24. He ran the station, writing and producing commercials, he hosted the drive show and was even the music director! It was a learning experience that Vinny holds near to his heart. Without it, he wouldn't be where he is today.
IIn September of 2009, Vinny got offered a job at Virgin Radio 96 in Montreal. It was a no brainer, even though he had to take a pay cut and went from being in total control of a radio station, to being an overnight announcer. He knew it was right in his heart and after 5 weeks, he was promoted to evening announcer...6 months later he was moved up to Afternoon Drive Show announcer! With that job, came assistant music director duties and Vinny was also asked to host and produce a weekly countdown show called 'The Virgin Hit 20'. Since starting the drive show on Virgin Radio 96 in June of 2010, Vinny was consistently the number 1 rated afternoon show in his hometown of Montreal.
On February 27th, 2012, Vinny decided to leave his job as afternoon drive show announcer at Virgin Radio. On May 28th, 2012 Vinny started as the new drive home announcer on the newly re-branded 92.5 The Beat of Montreal. Vinny can be heard Monday to Friday from 4-8pm. He also hosts a weekend show highlighting international hits called 'The Planet Hit List'. Vinny is also thrilled to host a party show on Saturdays called 'The Saturday Party Jam' from 4-8pm.
